‘Formed to encourage and promote the arts in Berkhamsted. It comprises over twenty Arts Organisations based in the local area which promote arts events open to members of the public ... “The Arts Diary” was first published in 1985 to co-ordinate a Spring Arts Festival and has expanded since into its present annual form. While most of the events take place within Berkhamsted, the Diary contains information about events outside Berkhamsted that are arranged by member organisations primarily for Berkhamsted residents. These events are usually events which cannot be held locally because suitable facilities are not available.’

'Firmly established as one of the premier jazz venues in the South East of England, attracting the finest musicians. We are always pleased to receive visitors ... We have about 250 members, who receive significant discounts on ticket prices, and we are always pleased to welcome new members. Our belief is that jazz is for enjoyment and we wish to encourage listeners to all the different elements that jazz comprises. We are neither a "Traditional Jazz" club, nor a "Modern Jazz" club; we try to include as many facets of jazz as possible in our programme.'

Formed in 1954: 'The Society has enjoyed programmes from many famous artists over the years - these include Natalie Clein, Lesley Garrett, Steven Isserlis, Emma Kirkby, Freddy Kempf, Stephen Kovacevich, John Lenehan, John Lill, Tasmin Little, Lawrence Power, Raphael Wallfisch, Kathryn Stott and innumerable string quartets and other recitalists. Another highly valued feature of the society are the excursions to venues in London to hear orchestral concerts, or visits to other venues such as Oxford and Milton Keynes. These start from Berkhamsted in comfortable coaches and are usually planned for 4- 6 times a year'.

'100-strong mixed voice choir ... Our usual schedule is to perform three main concerts a year, in May, September and December. We also present concerts on tour every summer, generally in mainland Europe,'

'Berkhamsted's own local orchestra. Formed of local professional musicians, the orchestra has been enriching the cultural life of Hertfordshire since 1997 ... The orchestra draws on the wealth of professional musicianship in the locality and also aims to offer performing opportunities for young student musicians on the threshold of their careers ... Offers symphonic concerts of the highest calibre, covering a wide spectrum of styles and periods, the great classics as well as unfamiliar and new works especially by British composers.'

‘Founded by its director Adrian Davis in 1976, and draws its singers from Berkhamsted and the surrounding towns and villages. They share a passion for singing and perform at least three main concerts each year in St Peter’s Church, mostly with orchestra or organ accompaniment. Though they have outgrown their original chamber choir size, their standard is enviably high and they enjoy a fine reputation both locally amongst their numerous supporters and in many places outside Britain as well. The Choir’s impressive repertoire ranges from music of the 12th century to contemporary works, often including works written specifically for the choir by Adrian Davis.’

‘Whilst the Society focuses principally on the main classical choral repertoire, from time to time it has commissioned new works. The Society also, on occasions, joins with other Choral Societies and Schools to perform major works, at such venues as the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. The Society has an enviable local reputation for the consistently high quality of its concerts. Professional soloists are always engaged ... The weekly rehearsals ... are a well-balanced blend of discipline and informality: demanding, but enjoyable. There are three regular concerts a year: at Christmas, Easter and one in the Summer, with some additional events for special occasions.’
