‘We are a non-profit making and award-winning musical theatre society based in Winchmore Hill N21 in the London Borough of Enfield. Founded in 1953 as The Wheatsheaf Players, the name was soon changed to Enfield Light Operatic and Dramatic Society and from performing mostly Gilbert and Sullivan in the 50's and 60's, the society soon took on the challenge of producing more modern musicals and this has continued to the present day. We produce a mix of classic shows and new productions and are a fully inclusive society, welcoming adults of all ages and children when a show requires under 18's. We perform two musicals per year, usually in April and October.’

Enfield Chamber Orchestra (formerly Enfield String Players) was founded in 1942. We are a very friendly orchestra who first and foremost enjoy playing great music. As a guide, a minimum standard of Grade 7 is needed to join, but a commitment to rehearsals and improving standards are the most important requirements.’

‘Although amateur in status we have gained a local reputation for giving performances of a high standard, often with professional soloists and ensembles ... We perform mainly classical choral works ... with the summer concert usually being much lighter ... We have also sung pieces composed by members of the society, works arranged by our music director ... Membership is open to all singers over the age of sixteen and there are currently approximately 70 members. We are a local choir in that most members live within the London Borough of Enfield. We aim to be inclusive and accessible. No auditions are required, but a good singing voice and enthusiasm are essential.’

'We wanted somewhere for local musicians to come and enjoy playing together, without the pressure and minimum standard often required by other amateur classical ensembles ... The main thing to say is that we are not high brow, we are inclusive and it's okay to make mistakes ... that's the way we learn. New players sometimes find themselves sitting with a novice on one side and a seasoned professional musician on the other. Everyone is friendly and encouraging and that's the way we like it.' Formerly the London People’s Orchestra.

‘We are a small ladies' choir performing concerts to raise money for various charities ... The music we sing is from a wide repertoire. Our programmes are broad and varied, with a mixture of sacred, classical and popular music, often taking us on a journey through time to include jazz numbers and songs from the great musical shows ... We welcome anyone who enjoys singing to come and join us ...There are no auditions and you don't need to be able to read music.‘

www.rowantreechoir.org.uk

‘The Choir began its life as an evening class at Rowantree School in Winchmore Hill, North London, in 1960. It later became a separate entity, and is now an important part of Enfield's thriving musical activity. We are a mixed choir of about 70 members, made up of the four singing parts: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. In our forty-plus years of existence we have performed a huge variety of pieces, from Requiems to Rhapsodies, from Baroque to the Beatles, and from Masses to Madrigals ... Membership of the choir is open to anyone who can hold a tune! There are no auditions. All are welcome and, as an incentive for people who have never sung with us before, we offer the First Term Free, so that new members can take their time discovering whether they like us and what we do.’

www.winchmorestrings.co.uk

'One of WSO's greatest assets is its friendly and welcoming membership ... From the person causing mischief at the back of the second violins to the cellist who insists on always sitting at the lowliest place in the section and not forgetting the outraged violas who harrumph their light-hearted indignation when the odd viola joke is inevitably wheeled out on occasion - there are plenty of vibrant personalities united by their love of making music together.'
