‘The Orchestra has been established since 2008, and our aims are: * to enable mandolin and guitar players to play music together; * to encourage the study of our instruments and music through the development of repertoires, technique, and musical understanding; * to promote public awareness through concerts and recitals. Our instruments are from the plucked string family – mainly (but not exclusively) mandolins, mandolas and guitars – and our repertoire is drawn from a wide range of musical genres spanning classical to popular, baroque to contemporary, and dipping into many different cultures along the way.‘

‘Brighton's very own mandolin orchestra ... Originally playing pieces typical of mandolin orchestras from the beginning of the twentieth century, the Fretful Federation has always been expanding and developing its repertoire. We now play a wide range of material including exciting contemporary music by living composers, as well as classical and popular pieces and concertos ... The music is written in part form for mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, mandobass, percussion and guitars. We welcome new recruits playing any of these instruments or their relative bowed cousins -- the violin family -- from beginners to advanced players. We perform concerts all over Sussex and have toured abroad.’

‘A group composed of high standard amateur and professional guitarists. It was founded in 1993 by Tom Parsons to develop ideas he had for creating a unique sound by composing and arranging music to be performed by a large group that combined classical guitars with electric and bass guitars. The orchestra developed rapidly into a regularly performing concert group with a surprisingly big sound and a wide-ranging repertoire spanning classical, rock and world music that made for a very listenable and highly entertaining concert programme.’
