‘Established in 2004, Blackdowns Early Music Projects were principally conceived to draw together groups of experienced singers to work under the expert guidance of specialist music directors on programmes of infrequently performed early music (mostly pre 1720). Singers are invited from all over Europe and the UK to spend 3 or 4 days working together on music that is usually performed in a suitable venue in or around the Blackdown Hills, bridging the Somerset / Devon borders. Frequently the music is accompanied by specialist early music instrumentalists. The resulting choral concerts have become a mainstream event in the calendar for anyone who loves renaissance or baroque vocal music.’

'A haven for the study of Bach's most significant choral music. Because all our activities together are packed into six days a year, it’s possible to combine membership with that of almost any other choir or group: a weekend in February, one in May, one in October.  Coaching and direction are committed to historically informed performance. It has to be said that choir members may spend many hours in private study of the cantatas. There is no audition at present, but members practise when possible to improve the overall success of the weekend.'

‘The Trust was founded by Aidan Woodcock, a former member of the London Symphony Orchestra, and a pupil of Max Rostal.  The Trust's main objective is to provide each year four courses for advanced students in the performance of chamber music ... The course name “Maiastra” takes its name from a bird in Romanian folklore with miraculous powers including foretelling the future, curing the blind, and the gift of song to make the old young again ... Our courses all lead to public concerts where course participants perform as “Maiastra”. We are proud to be told that our performing standard matches any concert anywhere.’ Admission is normally free of charge.
