’We are a thriving and ambitious community choir based in Canton, a district of Cardiff, the capital of Wales in the UK ... We do not audition members and we are happy for anybody to come along and audition us ... We generally sing two concerts a year, in January or February and July, typically. The winter concert is usually of a large cantata with professional soloists, accompanied by an accomplished orchestra made up of players from the city’s professional orchestras. The summer concert is usually made up of smaller works such as part songs and may include solos from members of the choir.‘

Formed 1962: ‘Originally a choir of around 25 singers, in recent times between 50 to 60 choristers regularly take to the performance platform. During the 1980’s the choir expanded to allow performances of the larger works and oratorios and has since given performances of all the major choral works, sometimes jointly with other local choirs ... While we continue to explore new avenues, and develop exciting programmes ... including 20th century composers, we are not forgetting our original aims and the work of Bach and his contemporaries will continue to feature regularly in our programmes’.

‘Formed in 2008, City Voices has grown from a small choir of just 25 voices to a membership of over 180 in just ten years. In that time it has been involved in concerts raising over £50,000 for a mixture of charities and performed in a variety of venues in and around Cardiff, as well as further afield. There are no auditions to join, City Voices believe singing is for everyone - everyone has a voice and it should be about meeting new people and having fun. The music performed by City Voices does not follow the traditional “Choral Society” approach, but instead we feature music from Stage and Screen ... City Voices is now a well-established choir, with only a few vacancies periodically becoming available. As a result of this, we have taken the decision to close our waiting list. Instead, we will be reviewing our membership bi-annually each May and November.’

'There's much fine amateur choral singing in Wales and the members of the Welsh Camerata are proud to be part of that tradition. We are a small choir of around 25 singers and what makes us distinct is that we specialise in the authentic performance of early music - that composed in the eighteenth century and previous centuries (with the occasional, well-informed foray into later periods) ... Performance technique has evolved over the centuries and singing music from earlier periods often requires quite a different approach to the material. Our specialism has led us to discover forgotten masterpieces from an incredibly rich period. Many of our performances have contained pieces no doubt performed for the first time in Wales since their composition.'

‘For over 40 years the Church has recognised its special ministry to musicians and artists in the locality, and St Edward’s Music & Arts Centre coordinates that outreach to the community, providing opportunities for amateurs and professionals to rehearse and perform in an auditorium of outstanding acoustic quality.
