'Takes place each year, usually in April and May. We offer a huge range of competitive classes covering Piano, Singing, Choirs, Orchestral and Chamber Groups, Composition, Stringed and Wind Instruments of all descriptions, Speech and Drama. We aim to offer something for everyone, but if you don’t find a class that suits you, do get in touch and we will try to create one especially for you. Our Festival Competitions are open to amateurs and students whatever their age or ability. Entrants are given the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and may win a cash prize, trophy or certificate. ‘One of Barnet’s oldest musical organisations. During the summer, we play at fetes, community events, and bandstands, while Christmas sees us participating at Barnet’s Christmas Fair in The Spires shopping centre. We also give concerts for local charities, and over the years have been privileged to help many worthy causes. Barnet Band is a not-for-profit organisation run by its members. ‘Founded in 1940 and is currently around 100 strong. ‘We are a non-profit making and award-winning musical theatre society based in Winchmore Hill N21 in the London Borough of Enfield. Founded in 1953 as The Wheatsheaf Players, the name was soon changed to Enfield Light Operatic and Dramatic Society and from performing mostly Gilbert and Sullivan in the 50's and 60's, the society soon took on the challenge of producing more modern musicals and this has continued to the present day. We produce a mix of classic shows and new productions and are a fully inclusive society, welcoming adults of all ages and children when a show requires under 18's. We perform two musicals per year, usually in April and October.’

‘FCMG was founded in 1958 to give the first amateur performance of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde, and for most of its life has been the most celebrated children’s choir of its kind in the UK. Since its formation it has pursued an ongoing commitment to the commissioning of new music for children’s voices ... FCMG is regularly invited to supply the children’s chorus for major choral works ... New members are always welcome to join FCMG. There are four different choirs and the age range of the children is from four to eighteen. The Beginners and Intermediates choirs are open to all. In order to enter into the Senior and Chamber choirs, it is necessary to audition. Children may join FCMG at any time – it is not essential to have passed through the early stages of FCMG in order to audition for the Senior Choir.’

As its name suggests, most of the instruments of the single reed family are represented, from the small high E flat Clarinet to the large and low Baritone Saxophone. The Bass Saxophone and the enormous Contra Clarinets also make regular apperances with the ensemble ... ‘A large open-access woodwind ensemble, which aims to give intermediate adult players the experience of playing in a larger ensemble and at the same time improving intonation, sight-reading and ensemble skills. The Band now comprises about 45 regular players and there are also many opportunities for playing in chamber groups. The band takes its name from Alexandra Palace in North London, which is adjacent to the Community Centre where the band rehearses, on alternate Sunday mornings. There are no auditions, and the band has a relaxed and open ethos. The music is arranged in a four-part flexible format, which gives a choice of parts for the flutes and clarinets. There are parts for B flat soprano, alto and bass clarinets, all four saxophones and French horn. The more advanced and adventurous players also have the opportunity to play concerto movements occasionally.’

‘The Choir began its life as an evening class at Rowantree School in Winchmore Hill, North London, in 1960. It later became a separate entity, and is now an important part of Enfield's thriving musical activity. We are a mixed choir of about 70 members, made up of the four singing parts: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. In our forty-plus years of existence we have performed a huge variety of pieces, from Requiems to Rhapsodies, from Baroque to the Beatles, and from Masses to Madrigals ... Membership of the choir is open to anyone who can hold a tune! There are no auditions. All are welcome and, as an incentive for people who have never sung with us before, we offer the First Term Free, so that new members can take their time discovering whether they like us and what we do.’

'Established in 2009 by local residents, with the help of a Making The Difference grant from Haringey Council, to provide opportunities for people in Tottenham and Haringey to meet their neighbours and sing together. New and experienced singers of all ages and voices are welcome, and you do not have to audition ... We have a varied and diverse repertoire from Bernstein to The Beach Boys, Mozart to Bob Marley. We perform regularly within the community and further afield.'

Whether you are young or old, a singer or an instrumentalist, or just someone who enjoys listening or music, there is something for you! ... Our regular series of "Saturdays at Six" concerts are free and include a glass of wine. Join us on the second Saturday of each month, for organ, piano, instrumental and operatic music. We are also occasionally able to host one off events featuring a range of performers.'
