‘Caters for all ages, abilities and instruments. We regularly receive comments that this is a really friendly and informative festival; to those of you who may be new to it, its “difference” means that after every performance, in whatever category, an adjudicator of the highest calibre will give instant comments and helpful advice. Audiences appreciate hearing these assessments immediately instead of having to wait until the end of the class, and performers really enjoy the chance to work on their pieces with an experienced adjudicator.‘ Held Late April.

The students experience an intense, but highly supportive, conservatoire atmosphere.’ Held Mid August.

‘Whilst ranging from the timeless delights of Tallis and Byrd to the power and drama of Howells and Britten, the focal point of Festival is the early twentieth century — the Golden Renaissance of English music. As well as commissioning thrilling but accessible new works in the English tradition, the EMF is devoted to keeping important works by major British composers in the repertoire, and to resurrecting the many forgotten gems by a host of lesser-known composers, whose exquisitely crafted works never fail to surprise and enchant.‘ Held Late May.

‘Came into existence in 1977 when a group of parents got together to create a band for their youngsters to play with. Although at first lacking in material assets, enthusiasm and a determination to succeed saw them through the early difficulties, and interest in Abbey Brass quickly grew ... As a charity we provide education and training for young people and adults in the playing of brass instruments, to promote the appreciation and understanding of brass band music and to stimulate interest in the traditional art of brass band playing.  In addition to the Main Band, Abbey Brass is also formed of a Training Band, and several learner groups, with many children learning to play brass instruments and progressing through the different levels to become a fully-fledged brass player.’
