'Founded in 1933, although records of a Choral Society can be traced to the middle of the 19th Century. During World War II the Society was suspended although Jackie Burn kept a choir going in Alnmouth until the Choral Society was restarted in 1947. Since then, regular concerts have been performed in local Churches, halls and the Playhouse, as well as more informal events in places such as Cragside, Hulne Park and Brinkburn Priory.'

‘When most people think of bagpipes they think of the great Highland Pipes from Scotland but the bagpipe is a large family of traditional music instruments which can be found all over Europe in many different forms. The Northumbrian Smallpipes consist of a set of elbow-operated bellows which deliver air to a large airbag. This in turn feeds the air to the chanter and also to a set of harmonising drones. Each of the drones produces a single note, but they are tuned to produce a harmonic background sound to complement the melody being played on the chanter ...  Alnwick Pipers’ Society has regular monthly meetings/playing sessions throughout the year ... Members of the public are very welcome to come and listen, and visiting players to come and play along.’

'On the 18th March 1995 in the Playhouse, to a near sell-out audience and to great critical acclaim, the Band performed its first ever concert. Since then the Band has gone from strength to strength and is now an established musical group of repute within the town. The Band takes its name from its adopted home, Alnwick Playhouse, where rehearsals take place on a weekly basis and where the Band performs its main concerts. The Band is very fortunate to have such an excellent venue as its base and is grateful for the continuous support it receives from the management and staff of the Playhouse.'
