'An amateur mixed adult choir ... We sing a wide variety of music - you may not like everything we do, but you're sure to like something, and if your favourite isn't in our programme there are plenty of opportunities for choir members to make suggestions for future concerts. Typically we put on 3 major concerts in a year, but we also sing by invitation at other local events.'

Formed 1964: ‘The Choir always welcomes new potential members. Novice or experienced singers can come along to our rehearsals, sit in with us, join in with us. Whilst having the ability to read music would be an asset it is by no-means a requirement. Potential members are first given a period of a few weeks to become familiar with the Choir’s requirements and procedures whilst rehearsing within their particular section: either Bass, Baritone, Second Tenor, or Top Tenor. When you feel comfortable and you decide that you would like to become a full member, a private audition with the Musical Director is arranged. This takes the form of singing scales and notes within your voice range so that the Musical Director can judge where best your vocal range fits within the choir. Although it sounds terribly formal be assured it is far from it and you can be sure of our help and support in encouraging you to use your voice’.

‘Formed in 1930 by local musicians for the enjoyment of making music through rehearsals and concerts. For over 60 years we were the only symphony orchestra to perform regularly in Basingstoke. The Anvil has transformed the musical scene in Basingstoke and we are now one of the many symphony orchestras who enjoy the Anvil's wonderful acoustics - likened by one expert to “an Italian courtyard in summer”. The high standard of presentation achieved by the BSO, coupled with the Anvil's acoustics and facilities means that we have been able to attract many top name soloists to perform with the orchestra over the past few years.’
