‘A charitable organisation which aims to support and promote music-making for young people in North West Derbyshire. Our principal activity is to bring young musicians together to experience playing in an ensemble at weekly term-time rehearsals. Motivated by talented ensemble directors, our players are able to develop their musical skills and to make new musical friends. We have wind and string ensembles which range from beginners and early years through to accomplished players and school leaving age ... Most of our ensembles meet in Buxton, Bakewell and the Hope Valley but some meet in nearby villages. There are also regular opportunities to perform - both in informal settings in front of friends and family and at prestigious public venues.’

Founded 1861: ‘We were formed as a village band, with the patronage of the Church and Duke of Devonshire, to teach music without charge, provide an educational and constructive pastime, develop community spirit and entertain. The band has earned an enviable repuation and has taught many hundreds to play. Today, Burbage Band continues to promote and represent Burbage and Buxton both locally and abroad at a whole host of differing concerts, functions and celebrations, providing music in a wide variety of styles, and has active members from every generation.’

‘The Choir has reached a total of 60 members, so we now have a waiting list ... Everyone is welcome: any age, any voice. Low, high in the middle or not sure. We sing in three parts: alto, second soprano and top soprano. You'll soon find the section where your voice feels most comfortable. You don't need any experience and don't even need to read music. Nobody will ask you to audition or perform solo. You don't need a large powerful voice - the idea is to blend all our voices in harmony. All you need to do is be willing to listen and learn.’

www.kinderchoirs.org.uk

‘The Kinder Children’s Choirs is located in the beautiful hills of rural north Derbyshire, England. It was named after the famous Derbyshire Peak District landmark Kinder Scout ... We believe music is a real enrichment of a child’s development and education. We offer bursaries, so that children are not precluded for reasons of cost. There are also no voice tests or auditions to gain entry to the Choirs’ training programme. Our regular performances include prestigious venues, such as cathedrals and national concert halls. The overwhelming success of the children’s choirs led to the launch of an adult choir. The Kinder Chorus welcomes singers of all ages, irrespective of musical experience. Each season the Chorus performs with professional musicians at the Buxton Opera House.’
