‘Provides an opportunity for young musicians to prepare either a piece of their own choice or a set piece for performance. They then perform it in front of other performers and visitors to the festival as well as a professional adjudicator. This gives them vital experience and confidence. The adjudicator will give marks to the performances enabling the best performance to secure the trophy for that class but at the same time will give each performer a constructive criticism with help on how the performance might be improved. We have been told by many of our entrants and the adjudicators that we are one of the friendliest festivals they attend, with many of our competitors returning year after year.’ Held Mid October.

‘Originally formed by the amalgamation of 5 local colliery choirs ... Inaugurated in 1968, and has been entertaining audiences ever since. Its success has been born from the sheer dedication, energy and professionalism of the founders and stalwarts that have served the choir from its origins through to the present day. Over the decades the choir has taken part in choral competitions and eisteddfods, winning major awards for its performances in the UK and Europe.’
