‘There is a general misconception that the word “organ” means it is either the traditional theatre organ or a church or classical organ. As much as this view is still appreciated and respected, there is a whole world of difference in the modern day instruments. The sounds that today’s artistes produce are amazing. Anything from a full string orchestra or brass band through to an electric guitar or violin, every type of instrument and style is acheived by these multi-talented musicians. So don't be put off by the word organ. Go along to your local club and see and hear for yourself, you will be pleasantly surprised we assure you.’

‘Chamber music concerts have taken place monthly at The Studio since 1991. The intimate nature of the performing space and the studio’s location in a garden and field on the edge of Brightlingsea Creek make for an unusual and attractive setting that is particularly suitable for the enjoyment of music of this nature. We have been especially fortunate in the very high quality of those musicians who have played here and who have subsequently brought other colleagues with them on their return visits.‘

‘We give two concerts a year, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn with occasional additional performances at Christmas. Don’t worry if you can’t read music, we’ll teach you the notes and provide the scores. We also organise Choral Workshops at least once a year, to which we invite all-comers (you need to book your place) and in which we study some music during the morning and afternoon before producing a performance in the early evening. We have a flexible membership scheme to suit all sorts of availability, although you will have to reach the required standard to sing in a concert.‘

'Over the years the society has seen several variations to its name which have included the terms "operatic" and "musical comedy". Following a recent rebranding exercise involving the members of the society it was decided that a name change was needed. We felt that "Clacton Amateur Operatic Society" no longer reflected our style of performance and instead our name should include the word "musical", so on 1 September 2009 "Clacton Musical Theatre Society" was born.'
