‘Our Choir’s first rehearsal was in May 1910 when it was known as the Newdigate Choral Society. The choir participated in the Leith Hill Musical Festival for the first time in 1914 but it was disbanded during the first world war and then re-formed as Beare Green Choral Society in 1937. Both names were amalgamated in 1974 ... We welcome all new singers, there is no audition, just bring along enthusiasm and a desire to listen and learn.’

‘The Choir aims to offer a full and involving musical experience to our audiences, and we welcome new singers who want to contribute to that. Although originally started in the first half of the 20th century, the choir in its present form was formed in 1952 as Brockham Christ Church Music Society, later taking its present name ... We don’t hold auditions, but we aim for a high standard. We warmly welcome new members to the choir, and encourage anyone with an interest in choral singing to contact us. Whilst previous choral experience is valuable, a love of singing and a desire to learn are more important. Also, new members would find it very useful to have either the ability to read music, or a good ear!‘

‘A friendly, non-auditioning choir rehearsing ... in Capel Memorial Hall, near Dorking, Surrey ... The highlight of the choir's year comes each spring when we compete in the Leith Hill Musical Festival at Dorking Halls, which culminates in an evening concert with the massed choirs of our division, in which we perform the competition works with full orchestra and professional soloists. In addition to LHMF, the choir performs a concert of Christmas music each year, and holds various other events.’

We aim to perform to the highest musical standards, creating interesting programmes for our audience, combining classical favorites with lesser known chamber works and 20th century pieces’.

Founded 1999: ‘A group of musicians who make up a fun, friendly and talented orchestra playing a wide variety of music in the Surrey Hills ... A fast growing orchestra, but it maintains the friendly atmosphere amongst its members that was the intention of the founder, Chris Hammond, as well as aiming for high standards of musical performance. We are very committed to providing educational opportunities via links with local schools, including having local schoolchildren perform in our concerts’.
