'We are essentially a group of amateur singers and welcome new singers in August and at our mid-term point in the New Year. Entry is by simple audition, but don’t be put off by this – we are always interested in welcoming new members, and auditioning helps us gauge vocal range and ability with singing scales and arpeggios. Some ability to read music is desirable ... We rehearse for three main concerts each year, with classical concerts in November and in the Spring, and a Christmas Concert of Music and Carols in December.'

Dumfries Male Voice Choir have been singing and having fun doing it since 1950. We are a friendly bunch, who meet together to rehearse ... from September to May. We often sing for our supper by performing at charity events throughout the South of Scotland. During these performances we invite young musicians and singers to join us as our policy is to encourage them and to provide a platform for them to perform in public ... The highlight of the choir’s year and the culmination of all our practicing is our annual concert which is usually held in April ... The choir also enjoys occasional away days, or even weekends to take part in competitions or concerts. The choir have competed in Scotland, Wales and Ireland.’

It relies on the goodwill of its members who play for the love of it and also on generous sponsorship and patronage ... We have aimed to put on a major concert in Dumfries in the late Autumn with a smaller event in the Spring elsewhere. So far we have performed in Newton Stewart, Lockerbie, Castle Douglas, Carlisle, Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse of Fleet, Langholm, Annan, Stranraer and Moffat. We would value any suggestions for other suitable venues ...'
