’We warmly welcome new members and are happy for people to try us out for a couple of weeks before signing up. We all love music, but some of us have not sung before, some are coming back to singing after a break (perhaps for the first time since school) and a few of our members are more experienced singers. Some of us can sight-read, some of us can’t. We do not hold auditions, much preferring to give anyone the chance to sing. At the start of each term, we hold an Open Rehearsal where you can come along to get a taster of our rehearsals, and to see if our society is for you.’

‘We are a group of musicians of all standards and ages who meet on Saturday mornings during term time to play a variety of music and enjoy playing music together ... As a rule we do not put ourselves under pressure by giving public performances, but at the end of each term we put on a very informal “open rehearsal/concert” at the Exchange in Sturminster Newton to anyone who wants to come and hear us!’

‘Since its inception in 1990 Wincanton Choral Society has grown enormously both in membership and repertoire ... The Society presents two concerts each year – one just before Christmas and the second in May ... For its concerts, the Choir is accompanied by an orchestra made up of local professional musicians, and performances frequently include well known and high quality soloists who are always eager to sing with the Society.’

‘The special concerts at Gillingham Methodist Church started in 2004 as part of our appeal to raise money for the restoration of our beloved Sweetland organ. The restoration is complete, but the concerts continue! In 2008 we re-launched ourselves as Music at GMC.  Our aim is to bring top-quality music to Gillingham and the surrounding area by inviting local musicians and wider-known celebrity musicians to come and perform at GMC. With this in mind, we extend a warm welcome to all. We hope that you will enjoy our latest concert offerings and that we will see you at some of our events.’

The Church was originally linked with Glastonbury until the dissolution of Abbey. It was re-modelled in the 19th Century: ‘The organ is a splendid instrument made by J.C. Hele of Plymouth in the late 19th century. It has 23 ranks of pipes. It has been restored twice, once in 1975 by John Budgen of Bishop and Sons and recently in 2000 by Stephen Cook of Westbury in Wiltshire’.
