‘Founded some twenty years ago to encourage the love of serious music especially amongst the young, we provide live music in different genres performed by highly gifted professional artistes, many of whom have international recognition. Probably no other local venue provides such recitals on a regular basis throughout the year and at a very reasonable expense. Why travel to London when this quality of musical satisfaction can be found so close to home? ... All our concerts are held in the church at 83 Portsmouth Road, which has one of the finest church organs in the south of England. We also have a fully restored c. 1892 Bechstein concert grand piano.’

‘Aims to bring to Surrey audiences a wide range of music performed in fresh and exciting ways, all the time aiming for the highest standards. We are an auditioned choir meeting usually for six two-hour rehearsals on different weekday evenings before each performance. Normally we undertake three main concerts each season, which are usually on Saturdays ... All members play a full part in the organisation of the concerts by distributing publicity material, selling tickets, preparing the concert venues on the day, helping with post-concert parties etc.‘

‘The GSO is now the only Guildford orchestra regularly offering a full-scale programme of 19th and 20th century symphonic music. The musical development of young people has long been a priority with the GSO: its “Tidings of Joy” concerts at the Cathedral see a large children's choir performing Christmas songs they have composed, and in February or March of each year five young instrumentalists of exciting promise are featured playing concerto movements in the annual Young Artists' Concert.’

In Accord is based in Guildford. We sing a mixture of 4 and 5 part “a cappella” harmony covering a broad repertoire of popular songs. Arrangements are written “in house” enabling us to choose songs we enjoy and that are popular with audiences. We can also arrange songs specifically for people we perform to, providing a personalised touch! We don't use written music once we've learned a song. In fact, we just sound a note and start singing. We perform regularly with audiences (and venues) wide ranging and varied, all of which adds to the buzz of showing off what we do!’

‘The leading professional freelance orchestra in the South of England, SPM is Guildford's “principal provider of classical music”, delivering workshops, schools and community events and live performances in leading venues ... The Southern Pro Musica evolved from the need for a professional orchestra to provide support for choirs based in Hampshire and West Sussex. The availability of increasing numbers of fine free-lance musicians choosing to base their careers in the south enabled the orchestra to enlarge its area of operations to work with choral societies further afield and also to undertake purely orchestral engagements.’
