‘A community orchestra serving the London Borough of Havering and surrounding areas. We exist to provide opportunities for local instrumentalists to practise and develop their musical skills, and to provide entertainment for members of the public. We have adult members of all ages, and endeavour to make our rehearsals and concerts approachable and friendly occasions. The orchestra works with local soloists wherever possible, and has a particular commitment to offering local young musicians solo performance opportunities. We have worked with several past winners of the Havering Young Musician of the Year award.’

'Musical Theatre group presenting shows and staged concerts. We have performed many of the classic musicals and have also enjoyed performing a number of the lesser known musicals ... We currently have around 40 members; some have been with the Society for twenty years or more while others are just taking part in their first show. As always, new members are welcome in all categories, from the back row of the chorus to leading roles - and if you haven't been on stage before, no worries. As long as you can hold a tune and can do some very basic movement, you can be on stage in no time!'

‘Formed in 1991 by two local schoolteachers (Paul Servis and Tim Litchfield) who spotted a gap in the community for amateur musicians of differing levels of ability ... The idea was that there would be no daunting entrance auditions, with membership being open to anyone who can play a musical instrument, read music to a reasonable level and is willing to learn. Over time, the Orchestra has remained true to this founding principle and has provided people of all ages with somewhere to develop their skills and make the most of the talent they have ... The Orchestra is a happy blend where stronger players mix with others of lesser ability, where everyone helps each other and no-one is made to feel inadequate or out of their depth.’

‘An amateur, mixed voice chamber choir ... The choir has been singing in Upminster and the surrounding area for nearly 40 years, and enjoys singing both old and newer music (from Tallis to Tavener). Despite our name, not all our concerts are “a cappella” (unaccompanied) – we sometimes have organ or piano accompaniment, and have sung with an instrumental ensemble and a harp ... We usually give 3 or more concerts each year (Spring, Summer and Christmas), featuring a variety of music ... Refreshments are available at each concert, so you can not only hear live choral singing, but relax and chat with the choir afterwards!‘
