‘Since 1992 we have been organising first-class chamber-music concerts between May and October each year in the beautiful church of St Cuthbert's in the centre of Allendale, 10 miles from Hexham. Musicians of international standing love to come and play in this superb acoustic to warm, responsive audiences. We have four concerts this year [2018], which will be a make-or-break year financially - unless we get full houses and attract generous sponsorship it seems likely we may not be able to continue, at least on this scale, after next year ...’

Being able to read music is not essential ... The Choir perform a fairly wide range of music including sacred/oratoria works, Welsh Hymns, Gilbert and Sullivan, Folk Songs from all over the world and musical shows (both ancient and modern!). We have a particular affinity for Northumbrian and Tyneside songs which figure greatly in our repertoire and some of which have been specially arranged for us.'

 

‘The Riding Mill Choral Society is a long established part of Riding Mill village life. We are a four part choir of about 35 members who live in and around the area. We usually perform two concerts a year, normally in the Parish Hall ... Our repertoire is fairly extensive, ranging from Haydn’s Creation to Bernstein’s West Side Story, Gilbert and Sullivan and a lot more in between ... We are always pleased to welcome new members – no audition! Although the months between April and September are free from rehearsals, we are sometimes called upon to perform at various functions in the summer months. We are a non-profit making happy band of singers who enjoy singing for the love of it!’
