‘Loughborough based, Charnwood Concert Bands are 3 friendly community bands, providing musical performances around the East Midlands, with a mixture of indoor and outdoor concerts held throughout the year. Our aim is to make music fun and enjoyable, both to play and listen to, while at the same time improving the standard of the musicians involved. The bands are delighted to encompass a broad age-range in their membership, (currently from ages 8 to 80), underlining the commitment to making music in a joyful and friendly atmosphere. Less concerned with formal playing qualifications, we are keen to attract committed musicians willing to help us move forward. One advantage we have over other Bands, is that, for beginners, you can start off in the Training Band and as you improve, move into the Concert Band and eventually, the Symphonic Wind Orchestra.’

'The Orchestra is made up of sixty regular musicians, most of whom live in the villages of Charnwood as well as Leicester, Loughborough and the environs. Since its founding it has been a focal point for local musical talent, and today attracts players of all ages who perform together with genuine enthusiasm and musicality.'

‘Formerly Shepshed Singers, is an auditioned SATB choir of some 45 voices based in Charnwood, Leicestershire. Founded in 1977, the choir has gained a well-deserved reputation for performing neglected and unfamiliar music as well as better known and popular pieces, both sacred and secular ... As a choir we have competed in music festivals and, in addition to our own concerts, we are available for weddings, Christmas functions, and social or fund-raising events.‘

Formed 1967: ‘It has a long and successful history of singing and performing throughout this time. Although a relatively small choir it annually performs concerts across the county of Leicestershire. The choir has a large repertoire ranging from hymns, sacred music, songs from the shows, through to modern pieces by Lloyd-Weber and the Beatles, and welcomes invitations to sing at concerts, social events, weddings and funerals’.

‘The orchestra welcomes players of all interests and backgrounds, provided they meet a minimum playing standard. In the larger string sections, where we already have some strong players, we are happy to accept most players, so anyone of Grade 5 standard (or with playing experience) is welcome. We do not hold formal auditions for string instruments and therefore we encourage you to just come along and play with us for an evening. For solo sections, for example woodwind and brass, we require good players perhaps of grade 7 or 8. Vacancies for wind players arise from time to time but it is best to check with us first ... We give concerts twice a year, in January and June.‘

'Founded in 2002 by a group of choristers who sought the opportunity of singing in a small a capella chamber choir and facing the challenge of forging a balanced ensemble from a small number of voices ... Viva remains a small chamber choir, although it has now increased numbers a little in order to be strong enough to sing works written for double choir. In the early years, Viva gave few concerts while its repertoire was built ... Viva’s repertoire ranges across the centuries and embraces both sacred and secular music in various styles. As the choir has grown in ambition, it has begun to perform with success a variety of more difficult works for which many plaudits have been received. Though foundation members conceived Viva La Musica as an a capella ensemble, the choir’s natural development has led it towards repertoire that includes works accompanied by piano or organ.'
