’We are a community organisation, based in Newcastle, that creates opportunities for young people to perform and listen to live music ... We aim to provide musically talented young people with opportunities to perform live and for other young people to listen, enjoy and participate in supporting musical performances. For both groups this may increase their confidence, help them develop useful life skills and possibly result in them pursuing a career in the musical arts.’

‘The NDSO is for young and old alike. The Society seeks to encompass all who have an interest in the organ and its music. Novice or professional, player or listener; All are welcome to share our enthusiasm for, and interest in The King Of Instruments and to join our activities. In the same way as anyone who plays football is a footballer, anyone who plays the organ is an organist. Perhaps surprisingly, only some 25% of our membership hold a permanent church appointment. So we really are open to all. Newcastle is home to a number of fine and historic organs, the works of builders like Lewis, "Father" Willis, Harrison & Harrison, Binns and others are to be found in the City's churches, schools and concert hall.’

‘Cappella Novocastriensis was founded in 1960 by Dr Frederick Hudson to specialise in early choral music for worship. However, that is only part of the story. We sing in concert hall, church and cathedral and give one or more concerts per term, as well as an annual carol service for Newcastle Law Courts and occasional engagements for choral evensong, weddings and other services and events. The choir has about 35 members and often sings unaccompanied, bringing both clarity and intimacy to its performances.’

It was formed in 1973 initially to perform sacred music of the 16th Century, but over the years the repertoire has been extended to embrace choral music of all periods ... In a typical year we stage three concerts, of which one is on a larger scale, such as our regular and well-supported performances of the Messiah in Hexham Abbey ... We participate in a wide variety of other musical activities including Christmas carol concerts and services, large-scale choral works with other choirs, special church services and celebrations, weddings, and private functions.‘

‘Music is at the heart of our worship. The Cathedral Choir, Schola Cantorum, St Nicholas Singers, and a host of visiting choirs follow in the footsteps of a longstanding choral tradition at Newcastle Cathedral. During Choir Term there are six sung services per week, encompassing some of the greatest music from the 14th Century to the present day. We have no cathedral school, so our choristers are drawn from all over the City ... All are welcome to come to the Cathedral to enjoy 40 minutes of music during every Monday lunch time (from 1.05pm). Featuring the organs of the Cathedral, the recitals will be performed by a visiting performer, or one of Newcastle Cathedral’s “home team” ...’
