‘The Allegri String Quartet, Britain's longest running chamber music ensemble (founded in 1953) has been playing each summer to delighted audiences at St. Myllin's Church, Llanfyllin, in the heart of Mid Wales. Those first concerts held by the original quartet developed into the beatingheart of what is now the annual Llanfyllin Music Festival, or Gŵyl Gerdd Llanfyllin, as it is known locally. Over the years, the Festival has expanded to include performances by other musicians and artists of international calibre. In recent years, as part of the Festival, the Allegri has been involved in educational out reach work to Music Masterclasses and Concerts for young musicians within the county.’ Festival held Late July.

'Founded in 1982 by Michael Smith, the then organist of the Parish Church of St. Oswald, King & Martyr, Oswestry. Under its original name "Cantiones Sacrae" the choir comprised 15 voices and set its sights on performing some of the more challenging music in the chamber choir repertoire. Before long it swelled to well over 20 voices and concerts were given as far afield as Chester and Shrewsbury, as well as an appearance at the Llangollen International Festival. Cantiones dropped the "Sacrae" from its title in the mid-nineties when its repertoire widened to include more and more of the quality secular music available.'

We have entertained folk from as far away Australia, Norway, Holland and one young visitor from Florida still speaks of her surprise and delight to hear a Choir of men in the middle of rural Montgomeryshire singing “Dixie” for her.‘
