‘Was started in 1997 by local jazz players and enthusiasts to encourage interest in live modern jazz by: * booking and promoting jazz events featuring nationally known and up and coming young artists; * arranging jam sessions and workshops for local musicians; * developing the local audience for jazz by communicating news and information about the programme and other jazz events in Shropshire by print, web and email. The Network arranges a monthly concert, usually at The Hive, Belmont, Shrewsbury, except in the months of August and December.’

'Come and enjoy a couple of hours of wonderful entertainment with a variety of music, sounds and styles from some of the Country's top organists and what remains Shropshire's only theatre pipe organ installation in a public venue. The WurliTzer now requires no additional amplification with sound coming through the swell shutters, which have been described as "dancing doors" and The Buttermarket is a nice intimate venue in which to enjoy a theatre organ concert, see the organist up close and enjoy a thoroughly good afternoon of entertainment.'

‘A group of around 80 singers drawn from a wide area around the small market town of Bishop’s Castle in Shropshire ... We meet weekly to rehearse and give around four concerts each year, ranging in style from major choral concert works (we have particularly enjoyed Handel's Messiah and Mozart's Requiem) to light opera, and of course Christmas favourites. We are a varied group of ladies and men, ranging from our mid-twenties upwards but with no age limit! Some of us are professional musicians, but the vast majority simply have a love of singing together and having some fun on the way. We are always looking out for new members, so if you are interested, why not get in touch, we would love to hear from you.’

‘One of the most polished choirs in Shropshire, The Phoenix Singers also has a reputation for being one of the friendliest. Our wide repertoire centres on major works of the baroque and classical periods, but we also encourage new music, both by commissioning and through our composition competitions ... We usually offer three concerts a year, with around ten rehearsals for each. We also have a vibrant social programme - ranging from regular pub chats after rehearsals to Come and Sing days, singing carols for charity and organising our spectacular post-concert parties, which are justly the envy of other choirs.’

‘We meet weekly to rehearse and give 4 concerts each year. If you would like to join us ... you will be made very welcome ... You don't need to audition - all that's needed is a desire to sing ... Unlike many choirs, which tend to stay within their "comfort zone" and stick to the standard choral repertoire, we draw inspiration from a wide variety of styles ... This doesn't mean that we ignore the "old favourites" - our repertoire also includes the Mozart Requiem alongside many other classics.’

‘Founded in 1888, making it one of the country’s oldest non-professional orchestras. An enterprising and forward-looking group of Shrewsbury residents, including local merchants and solicitors, met on a December evening to “establish an orchestral society in the town” ...The orchestra flourished particularly during the thirties and forties and afterwards, and, thanks to both the improved standard of playing and support from local patrons, was regularly engaging top soloists - such names as Solomon, Myra Hess, Heddle Nash, Clifford Curzon, Jelly d’Aranyi, Ida Haendel, Isobel Baillie and Dennis Brain appear in programmes of that time. More recently, the title “Shrewsbury Symphony Orchestra” was adopted as the name for the performing ensemble. This was felt to reflect more accurately the nature of the concerts, which are normally of symphonic and other similar works, rather than shorter pieces, arrangements or “selections”.’

‘It is known that a choir has been in existence in Church Stretton since before the second world war but the Society in its present form was founded in 1977 ... A concert in December usually consists mainly of music related to the Christmas season and includes some Christmas carols for the audience to join in.  A spring concert in early May allows for more substantial works in the classical and modern repertoires.‘

‘Throughout the twentieth century the Abbey has been served by a number of talented and dedicated musicians who have built upon these historic foundations and have produced a choir which regularly sings cathedral-style services to the very highest standards ... Shrewsbury Abbey is fortunate in having a fine William Hill & Sons organ, installed in 1911. This organ was designed for the restored and extended Abbey (John Loughborough Pearson’s 1890s work), and was also designed to fit into a large space to the north side of the new Chancel. Hill was one of the two foremost organ builders of the time and his organs are found in many of the UK’s cathedrals and churches.’
