‘Established in 2004, Blackdowns Early Music Projects were principally conceived to draw together groups of experienced singers to work under the expert guidance of specialist music directors on programmes of infrequently performed early music (mostly pre 1720). Singers are invited from all over Europe and the UK to spend 3 or 4 days working together on music that is usually performed in a suitable venue in or around the Blackdown Hills, bridging the Somerset / Devon borders. Frequently the music is accompanied by specialist early music instrumentalists. The resulting choral concerts have become a mainstream event in the calendar for anyone who loves renaissance or baroque vocal music.’

SFW is more about people getting together and making music, singing songs and dancing rather than on formal concerts. We do act as an umbrella for other activities taking place during our weekend that are organized by others ... Most events in the Stroud Folk Weekend are free – please give generously when you see the collecting buckets.‘ Usually held Late September.

‘My name is Nigel Price and I am the incoming festival director. When I heard that the festival was to close this year [2017] I just couldn¹t stand to see such a fantastic annual event just disappear without a fight so I offered to do what I could to help it to continue. I promise you all that I will give it my best shot. I also promise to source all supporting businesses from Swanage itself where possible and, if I can¹t I will keep it as local as possible.‘ Held Mid July.

’Founded by Ted & Ivy Poole and friends in 1960, the club (formerly Swindon Folksingers’ Club) has a long history of keeping traditional music alive in this busy town in north-west Wiltshire. From its beginnings in the folk revival, the club has seen Swindon’s character change from railway town to a modern centre of new technology and financial services; but through it all, Swindon Folk Club has remained as a friendly, relaxed and welcoming place where anyone can come and sing, play or listen.‘
